Summer Holiday? Try Russia!
I have been wondering for some time now where I should go on holiday this year. I have searched high and low on the internet to find somewhere a bit different from the usual bucket and spade experience that I enjoy less and less every year! It was only after speaking to a friend in the pub that I had the idea to visit Russia. He had been there a couple of years ago and he stil spoke of that trip with fondness.
I started to investigate the possibility of going out there only to discover that I might need a russia visa. This put me off at first, but after looking online I found out that it is actually very easy to obtain one of these. I started to put things in motion and soon one was on its way to me. I was also worried because I had heard in the past that Moscow could be very cold, so I did a little bit of research into the russian climate and it turns out that there are many areas which are actually quite warm in the summer. Moscow is not too bad, and is of course much much colder in the winter months.
Once everything was booked all I needed to do was to find out how I could entertain myself out there. Looking online there seemed endless things for me to do once I got there. I could take a tour of the city, I could also visit Star City, the purpose built city for the people who worked as part of the great space race, which is still fully operational, but now open to the general public. All of those things seemed like fun, but the thing that I was really looking forward to was a trip to see some Russian tanks! I had always been in awe of these things, and I couldn’t believe that I was finally going to have the opportunity to see some of them!
Unusual conference venues in the UK
What’s the best way to make your conference stand out? Well, for starters, have it somewhere different. And not just different from your normal venue, but different from any venue. Somewhere with the ‘Wow’ factor that is sure to get everything off to a great start and be talked about long after everyone has returned back to work.
Here are just a few of the amazing venues in the UK that you can use for conferences that are unlike anywhere you’ve been before.
For a frighteningly good conference, try the York Dungeon. Catering for corporate events and networking evenings for between 30 to 80 guests, it offers a combination of real history, live actors and special effects. A welcoming drink is always advised to steady the nerves before your delegates take a gory trip into York’s dark past. With the opportunity to script the tour to your party, it’s sure to be a scream.
A much more light-hearted venue is Alton Towers Resort. Here you’ll find the leading Midlands conference centre with a host of facilities on offer for events of all shapes and sizes. That includes everything from meetings for 16 guests, to conferences for 700, to a complete buy-out of the Alton Towers Resort Theme Park for 15,000+. You can even hire the Water Park for an exotic beach party or enjoy exclusive use of their themed hotels. An award winning conference venue, Alton Towers Resort has facilities that make sure your event is a real thrill for all involved.
If you’re looking for a venue with a bit of history behind it, then try the Great North Museum:Hancock in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Catering for events ranging in size from 12 to 500 people, you can provide an unforgettable experience that can include a life-size T-Rex dinosaur skeleton, spectacular objects from Ancient Greece and mummies from Ancient Egypt.
Finally, if you really want to push the boat out, there’s Harmony II, a 190 foot classic steel mega-yacht which has been refurbished as a hospitality venue accommodating up to 100 delegates. Aboard you’ll find everything you need, including a conference and presentation room, lounge/bar area, business centre and boardroom. There is even a top deck hot-tub and dance floor if required.
